GISELA SIMAS

BORN IN RIO DE JANEIRO 70

•"I have always been passionate about wood, a very strong element in Brazil. This table is the combination of the signature of my design: High quality in the design and the sustainable material, manufactured with the latest technology that allows the harmonious balance between the cozy and the graphic . "
•Details about the artist: Furniture designed by Gisela Bentes Simas are like people: you only know them well after living with them for a while. Over the months, drawers, trays, lamps and tables are revealed. TATO is fundamental. His first exhibition in Brazil was in the contemporary archive in November of 2015. They were 7 pieces of DNA itself: timeless, meticulous, balanced and functional.
•In September of the same year, ORIGINAL PRACTICAL DESIGN LIMITED (OPD) began its annual participation in the London Design Festival. This included 100% design (2015), the UK's largest design fair and the London Design Fair (2016). In addition, OPD was also present at the opening event of the extraordinary LONDON DESIGN MUSEUM, recently opened in a new building in Kensington.
•This year, the OPD was invited to participate in two of the most prestigious events of the Italian Design calendar: Milan and Venice. And in September, OPD will share space with internationally awarded Jader Almeida at the London Design Festival from September 16 to 30, 2017.
•The pieces are produced in Portugal by respected SPSS, whose clientele includes Álvaro Siza. Since last year, the Portuguese factory is also responsible for exporting parts to European countries such as Spain, France and Switzerland. In Brazil, OPD's main partner is ELON Design, located in Petrópolis (Rio de Janeiro).
•The most recent achievement of OPD was the signing of the contract with O / M, a company specialized in lighting and signing the extraordinary project of the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. The O / M will be in charge of developing the BALANCE luminaire design, inspired by the American sculptor Alexander Calder.

JULIA MIRANDA

BORN IN LONDON

•Miranda is an Anglo Brazilian artist. Daughter of two painters, she has exhibited in Rio, New York, Barcelona and Munich and has a home studio in East London. Here she makes use of traditional media as well as found surfaces such as timber off-cuts, doors, bed sheets and paper packaging. These discarded materials come with a patina of possible histories. The process of reapropriation - concealing or emphasizing what already exists - constructs new narratives.
•A personal history of transition is present in the works. Through the manipulation of materials across these different surfaces, themes such as change, time, memory and human interaction are obliquely investigated. The idea of chance is often explored by starting with an “accident” of spilled powder pigment or by watching liquid colour take it's own course across the surface...suggested images may be defined or erased as they appear, and recognizable motifs from drawn or collaged figuration come in and out of focus. While the driving concern is with the formal elements of the work, a piece, once finished, also serves as a record of the artist's interior life, played out through the relationships between colours, planes and forms.
